The real reason oil is so high for Americans is the falling dollar

That's a big part of it.

As Prices Soar, McCain Returns to Gas Tax Holiday Proposal

That isn't really a policy I support. I'm not necessarily against lower gas taxes, but a "gas tax holiday" because prices went up, probably is a poor policy. Whatever rate we set our gas taxes at should probably be fairly stable.

The main benefit to the gas tax holiday would be if implementing one takes the steam out of other attempts for a government response to high oil prices that would be worse and/or harder to reverse. But considered in isolation I don't think the "holiday" is a good idea.

"Nuts! The real reason oil is so high for Americans is the falling dollar based partially on awful fiscal policy of spending more than we take in - so lets do more of the same causing the dollar to fall more yet. Demonstrated McCain has no real understanding of economic issues."

I say nuts! Please support that above allegation stated so strongly. Try a chart of the dollar vs the price of oil. The last big run is NOT associated with the Euro dollar valuation.

As for spending more than we take in - your side is busy trying to out spend Bush!

Three months ago the Euro and $ were about where they are today:

Three months ago crude was about $105.
