The candidate who taps into this phenomena might ultimately be the winner.

I believe this is correct. Right now, Americans are more sensitive to this than anyhthing -- even the war.

And most of us can see that the long-term solution isn't "taking away our SUVs", "more drilling" or "more regulation of the auto industry" or "taking profits from the oil companies".

While we need more drilling to get through the crisis, the ultimate solution involves radical reform in the way we get from point A to point B.

Shouldn't people who buy into the AGW - CO2 is a pollutant - line be happy about higher oil prices? What else is going to get people to cut gasoline usage?

Not that I am one of those. But it strikes me as strange to hear people simultaneously saying things like we need to get off oil and btw gasoline is way too expensive. Sheesh, where is the intellectual consistency?
