Flat tax unfortunately has its disadvantages as well, but its biggest advantage is its simplicity. You won't need to hire as many tax collectors, accountants, bureaucrats, etc. to implement a flat tax.

The problem with those trying to micromanage an economy using complicated tax structures is that even if you eliminate all of the corruption and all of the conflicts of interest, government will never be nimble enough to adapt to a changing world. Look at the AMT, for instance.
