I believe the swiftboaters alleged that the third Purple Heart was received by him somewhat disingenuously, as there was doubt as to whether the injury was sufficient to warrant his receipt of it. IMO, he got it, he was within his rights to bail out after having received it, and if anyone doubted his claim, it should have been brought up at the time rather than questioning it 30 years later.
