Some have suggested that Sadr backed off under pressure from Iran, who wants to try to insure Obama's election. There could be something to this. We were hearing only a few weeks ago about how Sadr was winning in Sadr City, then suddenly, out of nowhere, the resistance is gone. I'd like to think the Maliki forces won it, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility Iran is just trying to get "their candidate" elected in the US. This would be consistent with recent reports that AQ is suddenly, no longer an issue -- which would, of course, make McCain's platform of protecting America less important. I don't know who to believe. I'm just glad to see the violence levels down so dramatically. (Admittedly, in part, for selfish reasons).
