Agreed, but even more disturbing to me is my sense that we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg at this point.

Amelia, my parents saw this just into California from Arizona around the first of January. They saw areas with many many RVs scattered in clusters on federal land with no hookups (or rent) at all. I saw a youtube video a few months ago about a whole RV "town" that sprung up (in CA I think) that was multiple city blocks in size, and which bore a close resemblance to Hooverville's of the 30's. There were tents, corrugated fiberglass & aluminum, makeshift add-ons, etc., and some had jobs somewhere of course and so parked around the perimeter. Haven't seen much in the press about it though. There's just some town floating around the Seattle area I hear about now and then (that is, it keeps moving -- but it's a tent town).
