"The price is the problem. Who cares where it comes from."

Kate - your question is key to understanding the issue. Who cares where it comes from? - the US $ cares where it comes from. The country simply cannot afford the price of the imports. The whole issue is multi faceted. I urge you and others to think through all of the implications of 15 mm boed of imported energy.

If Clinton had not vetoed ANWR it would be in production today.

>>Granted, ANWR is more easily accessible, but folks on the right are treating it like the Holy Grail!!<<

Kate -

Because Bill Clinton vetoed the first bill Congress passed to open ANWR to drilling, and because Democrats have led the way on opposing drilling there ever since, it has become a very convenient symbol. The way some people talk about it, one would think our entire energy problem was created by Bill Clinton and the Democrats blocking the opening of ANWR.

Meanwhile, the oil companies aren't exactly suffering. I can't imagine that they have a real problem with the current situation. They still have the multibillion dollar tax breaks in force, while they reap record profits.
