Woops. I just read the rest of the snopes.com article about the Marlborough Man, and I see I misunderstood, and therefore misreported, an important fact.

The two men who died of lung cancer did both play the Marlborough Man, but the man who played it most did not. His name was Darrell Winfield, and he had the role from the mid-70s onward. He's considered the "main" Marlborough Man.

The two MMs who died of lung cancer were Wayne McLaren and David McLean.

The irony, however, remains intact.

The Marlborough man whose name was John White... I believe was of the sexual persuasion you describe...

I don't know about the other and in what order they were
the Marlborough Man. He was a neighbor of mine out on L,I. and I knew him.
