For some reason, congress members always seem to want to throw all kinds of crap into one bill. Why not keep things simple?

We are definitely on the same page. The "kitchen sink" nature of almost everything that Congress votes on drives me nuts. It really makes me wonder how much the politicians actually want to get done and how much they just want to grandstand.

Seriously, how many Republicans would have been able to get away voting against a bill that removed the tax breaks? They would have been crucified for that kind of vote, while voting against a windfall tax isnt particularly hard to justify (particularly to their own base).

Because you have to pay the members for their votes. Payment comes in odd and various forms.
