The environment wouldn't be destroyed. Also I would hardly consider 10 years from now too late, we may need the oil even more then.

As for "too little" thats a very complex issue. The amount of oil from ANWR, the relative balance of the market when the oil comes online, and the elasticity of demand at that time are not things that are really known now, they can only be guessed at. The benefit could be far more than $2/barrel even just from ANWR, and really the issue isn't ANWR, but generally opening up new areas for drilling which is a much bigger thing than just ANWR.
