I'm just pointing out that this shouldnt be an argument of absolutes...it shouldnt be difficult to craft a compromise bill that would make both the oil drillers and the environmentalists reasonably happy. I have yet to hear of anybody even trying to do something along these lines.

Good point.

ANWR seems to have become a symbol that each side bashes the other with.

I'll say it again though, it shouldnt be difficult to craft a compromise bill that would make both the oil drillers and the environmentalists reasonably happy. I have yet to hear of anybody even trying to do something along these lines

I was wondering about that - whether it has to be an Either/Or scenario.

But to make an informed decision one will have to see a comprehensive analysis of drilling in ANWR in terms of effect on Oil price, consumption, needed refinery capacity, effect on wildlife etc etc

The biggest problem there will be the credibilty of the sources behind such analysis
