Irish EU Treaty Referendum: Early Tallies Favor No Vote -RTE

DUBLIN -(Dow Jones)- The early tallies from Ireland's public referendum on the European Union's Lisbon Treaty favor a 'No' vote in some cases by two to one, with almost no 'Yes' majorities, state broadcaster RTE reported.

Boxes opened in the constituencies of working class areas of Dublin, Donegal, Kerry, Cork and Limerick indicated a preference for the 'No' side, with Cork north-central constituency as high as five to one voting 'No', RTE said.

However, analysts warn it is still early in the counting process, with between 10% and less than 50% of boxes opened in those selected areas. The official result will be announced between 1400 GMT and 1600 GMT Friday.

The turnout was estimated to average 45% in the only public referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, according to polling station surveys taken by RTE, which analysts say means the result is too close to call.
