The fact that we still practice this doctrine anyway disgusts a lot of us. As it should, and it is startling how many it doesn't concern. But it does seem that the branches are doing what they are designed to do, and isn't that reassuring? The judicial is finally reigning in a rogue branch and the military as they attempt to override our core values with a type of situational ethic without the required amendment or discussion. Some people seem to believe this is not just ok, but desirable.
