BTW, don't forget the Tesla, which went into regular production in March with the 2008 roadster. You can reserve a 2009 now. It's supposed to go 220 miles on a charge. Kind of expensive, however. $109k base. But then it's designed as a performance car (0-60 in 3.9 seconds), not an economy car, and it's priced in part to take advantage of the fact that early adopter types are usually not so worried about price. I imagine they'll follow with cheaper models and even the roadster will get considerably cheaper over time. Then there's the Fisker Karma, which comes out in a limited edition late next year and in regular production for 2010. 50 miles per charge straight electric, but then a gas motor kicks in (not to power the car directly, just to charge the batteries), so the range is much greater. Also designed as a performance luxury sports car, the 2010 is supposed to cost around $80k. They say as long as you drive no more than 50 miles a day, you will never buy gas. OK, maybe to replace what evaporates. A gallon a year, I think, is their official line. So, any idea what the Prius and Volt are supposed to cost? I'd also be interested in seeing some figures on the operating cost compared to different gas models if you know of any. After all, electricity costs money, too. I suspect it'll still look very good, but I've never seen an actual comparison. Have you?
