yes, absolutely. I think there is truth in the statement that the Dems have done nothing in 2 years, because they want the White House. So they are invested in doing nothing to make the Republicans look bad. I expected them to put a stop to Iraq, but they did nothing. But to be fair, the messes we're in now were of the Republican's own doing. Iraq and deficits. That's their legacy.

However, you cannot deny that our economy is tanking and our dollar is devaluing precisely because we are running massive deficits. Financial security starts with a balanced budget and a strong dollar. You don't get those by accident. Bush has been the most fiscally irresponsible president in my lifetime. Reagan ran massive deficits as well, but back then we were trying to outspend Russia in an arms race to drive them to bankruptcy and we were testing the theory of supply side economics. The former succeeded and the latter failed. Bush is running deficits for no good reason and it's literally killing our economy.

I don't make excuses for bad Presidents. This one is the worst of all of them. I disliked Clinton in the 90's and I hate the Clintons even more now. But one thing I will never fault Bill with is his and Rubin's successful effort to balance the budget. That was the one brief moment of sanity I've seen in 20 years among our leaders. The last brief moment of sanity was when this country had the good sense to elect Bush Sr. We had 4 years of a great President and then the idiots kicked him out.

"Same reasoning was used to denounce the economy under Bush, which has consistently grown but never at the rate of the dot-com boom of the late 90's. "Oh Bush isn't doing enough."

Apples and Oranges. Clinton had a booming economy with "high" taxes. Bush has had a mediocre economy with tax cuts and massive stimulus packages. The Clinton economy was sustainable. The Bush economy isn't, because it depends on borrowing from foreigners.

(R)'s just have fundamentally flawed ideas about the economy, and that is something they need to overcome. Will we all get a final big check from Bush? He can call it an "investment in his legacy"!
