1 - Having military bases isn't the same as having an empire.

That is a bizarre way to look at it. Our political system of fiat supremacy and control has had control of a huge area of the earth since WWII. My god, how many governments have we toppled? How many coups stages? How many foreign military have we trained to return home to overthrow their elected leaders?

Sweden has learned their lessons. We haven't.

Tim -

Greetings. I couldn't decide whether or not it was worth getting in on this discussion, since the premise seems to invite futility.

The idea that the US is "the most imperialistic country ever" seems very silly to me. It's certainly not a common view among liberals.

As a nation, we've certainly meddled in the affairs of other countries a fair bit, sometimes in rather clumsy ways, and sometimes with less than pure motivations, but we're far from being the worst ever.
