I work with many Asians and all that have visited China recently claim the infrastructure has drastically changed. They all claim there are many more roads filled with autos. The US is somewhat responsible for increasing their standard of living so that they are becoming bigger competitors for the world's oil reserves. I also knew a gal that lived in China under the stricter regimes..............her Dad was a University Prof and they had only an apartment and bikes. She was an MD there but still lived at home as she was in the intern stage. She had a brother so it was in the days before the one child rule was promoted.She had been told all her grandparents were dead. One day she arrived home and her "dead" grandparents were in her apartment. She left everything and her entire family fled to Taiwan that night to the home of her exiled grandparents.

China's imports of oil rose nearly 13% in the first five months of the year. According to MarketWatch, "China's imports of crude oil in the January through May period totaled 75.97 million metric tons (659.8 million barrels)."
