How many gallons do you consume per year per car you own? --Do you drive or fly to outdoor recreation sites around the country? How many gallons do you consume with these activities? --Do you enjoy boating trips, with large and small boats? How many gallons do you consume with these activities? --Do you travel via air, boat, rail, bus, etc for business several times a year? How much energy is consumed with these activities over the period of the year? --What do you do for a livelihood? For example, do you work for a National chain of stores of any type? --How many trucks does it take your corporation to deliver the goods your company sells to each of its retail stores? --What is the yearly energy cost to drive one of these trucks to all the company outlets? Multiply that number times the number of trucks in the fleet. --Does your company use services like FedEx or UPS to deliver merchandise? What is the yearly charge for these deliveries that is charged to the customer? --How much does it cost to manufacture these vehicles used to transport goods to the retail outlets? Take that number and multiply it times the number in your fleet. . --How much does building one of the retail stores take from the environment…..the actual site used, the cost of the materials and the energy consumed for those materials…. --How much does each retail outlet store allow for store fixtures used to assist in the sales of product? How much do these fixtures cost per store per year, and how much energy did it take to manufacture them? --How much does it cost to manufacturer the goods your company sells? Even if these materials were manufactured overseas, they still impact the environment to manufacturer them. --How much energy is used to deliver the goods made to this country by shipping, or via rail or trucks? --Does your firm use cardboard, boxes, sacks etc to pass to the customer? Multiply the number of customers in each retail store times the number of stores to determine the cost and the environmental cost per day. --Does your firm use electricity and other energy sources every day your firm is open? Determine the usage for each retail store and multiply by the number of days per year the company stores are open. --How many employees does your firm hire? If the charges become too much for the consumer to bear, and your corporation has to shut its doors, then what? You can assume that if your corporation shuts its doors, they will not be alone in closing their doors. What now? Do you begin to see, that multiplied by the number of people in the US and the world that individual people are not the problem as far as the environment is concerned? Do you begin to see that if the companies aren’t in business, that there would be millions of people out of work! If the people are out of work, how do you think they will survive? Especially city dwellers?
