Well, getting rid of ALL FF is not going to happen -- but getting rid of enough of the demand to make OPEC feel it IS doable over a 5-10 year horizon.

We replace 16M cars a year. With gas prices in the $6-8 range, OEMs will dramatically increase the number of hybrids/electrics with a corresponding decrease in straight gas fueled engines. It won't take that long to make a meaningful impact on world oil prices.

The predictions, of course, are that China will take up the slack. However, gas is not going to be cheap in China, either -- and while these people are scrounging to buy cars now, keeping them fueled will be as big a problem for them as for us.
