ASMI has structural management problems and a business problem. Its unlikely that ASMI will remain as is. The former CEO turned it over to his kid, its got some weird investor structures (which I do not understand) and its not been doing well on the biz side.

Seems like they are ripe for a takeover. If I'm an ASMI investor, its a bit like MSFT/Yahoo. Sometimes you are better served by taking the money when its offered ...

As for AMAT taking over ASMI, I don't know if its a good call or not. Just don't know enough about what they would bring to AMAT.

Company founder Arthur del Prado met privately with Applied Materials in April, apparently encouraging the company to make a bid for certain front-end operations. The bid upped the value of these operations in the eyes of the market, helping in the fight against activist shareholders, Dutch daily Het Financieel Dagblad reported on Thursday.
