"Freedom's just another word
For nuthin' left to lose.
Nuthin' left was all she left to me."

The lead singer in my old band always said "nuthin' ain't worth nuthin' but it's free." Janis Joplin put in something similar. That was my favorite part of the lyrics and it wasn't even right. <G>

Horag,

It's not really about the rights of the customers, though giving customers a choice is part of it.

It's about private property rights. If I own a pool room, I should be the one making the choice about whether it is a smoking room or not because "smoking is legal". Then it's up to the customers to use my non smoking room or the smoking room across town depending on their preference. That maximizes everyone's freedom. The government can do all it wants to discourage smoking without impeding the ability of people to open and attend any type of room they want for a legal activity.
