Daschle was not very successful as his party's Senate leader then he lost his seat in a meaningless western state.
No one would have been successful as majority leader in that Senate. I thought he did well under the circumstances. And the reason the GOP targetted him with so much energy and money, IMHO, was because they thought he was an effective opponent as well.

I don't see him appealing to swing state voters much based on his political past.

Perhaps. And perhaps Nunn would help in NC and VA. Personally, I don't see GA in play. Maybe Nunn still has enough of an organzation there to make it so if he is on the ticket, I don't know.

But he certainly doesn't symbolize "Change you can believe in." Whether or not that is a function of my not knowing enough about him, I don't know.
