John;

Hard to tell whether Friedman has a sense for something like the drinking water issue.

The use of the drinking water issue was just representative of a breakdown in infrastructure. The country is broken. Since neither the world nor the American people are prepared to fix the country - I remain very pessimistic about Iraq.

Any talk of a solution in Iraq is false without bringing in the issue of Afghanistan. The danger I see in remaining in Iraq is that we lose in Afghanistan too. That I find unacceptable. The recent news in Afghanistan is NOT good. If we can't win in Afghanistan, we won't win in Iraq no matter how low one is willing to drop the bar to what is "win".
