All good points, and also why I don't think the US is gonna continue the ethanol push into the next administration. Brazil is all tricked out for it though, and their economy is growing nicely (so we should leave ethanol production to them). I'd lift the import tariff, use imported Ethanol for additive value shut down US production (except for Jack Daniels, perhaps) and use corn for food. Go to plug in hybrids, announce a program to start a "nuke a month" for 50 straight months (ie, one presidential term), beef up transmission and use incentives for solar in the southwest and wind in the midwest. Drill the OCS and ANWR, it'll take years to get those up and running, may as well know where we stand and start to bring the infrastructure up to speed.

Cut imported crude in half by 2020 and to 10% of current levels by 2040.

And tell our Arabic overlords where to stick it.
