I agree that given a choice between a $ spent on producing a nonrenewable global commodity vs. a $ spent on the development of a local renewable energy source the long term benefits of the latter outweigh the former. However, the choice isn't either/or, there is room for both. A sensible energy policy would do what could be done in the present with resources available and at the same time prepare for a future when these resources are gone or prohibitively expensive.
