At present rates of production (which continue to drop despite heavy drilling) we effectively run out of domestic oil in 2030 or so.

You are neglecting to include the increase in reserves simply due the rise in oil prices - reserves are estimated based on the economics of known recoverable oil and given the rising prices lately, oil that was marginal at $40 per barrel is magically recoverable at $135. Of course you can't do that forever either - but it may extend the date a decade or so - assuming no increase in consumption rates, more if we begin to shift to alternatives.

Why can't you and the other blind RWer's look at the data from the DOE and try and understand it.....blathering about environmentalists and tree huggers only makes you look foolish.

Well, dumbass, if you just do "heavy drilling" and don't do exploration, yeah, you'll eventually run out.

JFShepard, > I'm afraid you're deluding yourself by thinking that there is an unlimited supply of oil and all we have to do is drill for it....

Not an unlimited supply, just reserves to help out in the short term.

I have said it time and time again that I believe in more drilling for the short term. No one is arguing that there is an unlimited supply of oil out there. That's just your straw man.

I have always argued for attacking the problem on all sides and with more urgency than either the GOP or the Dems are showing.
