I am going to cast my vote this time as I did when I voted for Carter in 1976 and Reagan in 1980. Back then I said new deal democrats represented a bankrupt ideology and that a new direction was necessary. Carter was a flop but Reagan led to 25 years of relative good times, essentially lowering taxes and relying on the American peoples innovative nature..
Now we are in crisis and so is the free market system. You just can’t say let the free market decide when confronted with a crisis. It’s beyond that. We are where we were in the 1920s and we need a change in course before the disaster this time and government must play an active role. Will Obama be Carter or Reagan? Could McCain revert to what I loved about him 8 years ago and be the right guy for this time? That’s what’s not clear to me yet.
