The recession comment was posted in response to my telling you more drilling rigs are being constructed. That remains true.

High gasoline prices may cause a recession. We'll still use fossil fuels in a recession just a bit slower.

there is no solution other then efficiency.

Efficiency is a good thing and even a necessary thing. However saying that is no reason to spurn any energy production. Further development of new energy sources ("alternative" or coal, nuclear, oil shale, methane hydrates, whatever) is also a good thing and part of any logical solution.

We are at or past peak oil and things will never be the same.

Peak oil, perhaps. We're at or past political peak oil for sure.
