I think what i am talking about is more about perception. If McCain can paint the dems as obstructionists on stuff Americans understand as in offshore drilling, anwar drilling, new refineries and nuke power it will be a winning issue for him.

Don't you think its time to stop trying to anticipate partisan reaction and do what's best for the country?

The average american cares more about $4 gas than a few rigs miles out. Most americans care more about $4 gas than a few caribou. And although they dont want refineries or nuke power plants near them, in theory they are for them. Until we get used to seeing hydrogen pumps, electric charging stations, natural gas pumps etc in our daily lives, we will be more comfortable with what we know, even if we are wrong about the timing. The dems risk being charge with exteme greenism and elitism which is always an achilles heel for them.

Think about what you're saying......its somehow wrong to be visionary [extreme greenism] and elitist [wanting long term planning]. When did that happen to this country?
