You are not going to convince irrational people that ANWR or other new areas for drilling is anything more than a move for greedy oil companies by the oil people in the White House.

Somehow or another the thought of directing efforts now to increase production 10 years from now is obscene. The thought that maybe new areas could be more prolific than existing ones is not considered a possible motive. The thought that there are limited resources and oil companies cant be everywhere is not a real limitation.

But these same people place all their faith on pouring money and resources into the development of some new technology to avoid dirty oil. A irrational belief that if we keep producing more oil from more places that the market wont focus on new technology to be beyond petroleum. A belief that somehow or another if we produce more of our own oil we wont take dramatic efforts to conserve oil. A belief that we can be energy independent without producing more of our own oil.

What happens if there are no new technological break throughs that can replace oil before scarcity makes oil volumes insufficient?
