I seem to remember Rather hiring Afghan fighters to stage a firefight for him. He filmed it ala John Kerry with all the drama. However it was later learned he paid for it. That was back when the Russians were there.

Dan Rather was maybe the #1 combat correspondent of the 60's. He is a truly exemplary man in all kinds of ways.

The real problem is that the rightwing hates and tries to destroy our free honest press, and without that press operating freely we slide toward fascism.
