It is not called socialism, it is called a welfare state and all modern democracy's have a welfare state to one degree or another.

Mostly it welfare spending applies to water, sewer, roads and city planning. Very mundane things we take for granted. Those are all socialist programs!

Is social security and medicare what you call socialism? All the hundreds of billions the feds have given to the banks to bail them out lately?

Socialism is a word for people who like to rant about the governement, but either have no concern for other people, or do not understand social science.

Social security and the New deal was the best thing to ever happen to this country. Millions of people avoid poverty (and suffering and loss of dignity) in their old age because of social security and medicare.

And we are still the only western democracy to not ensure all people get needed medical care. Compared to most modern democracy's we are primitive in our thinking and policies.

Very few people are lucky enough to figure out how to save enough for old age and except for social security they would live their old age in abject poverty. That would be, and was, before social security a horrible thing. Lots of suffering.

Most modern democracy's not only function better than us, but have more aggressive welfare states.

When you have a heart attack and the paramedics come to help you, remember it was a social program that created an emergency medical services system and emergency medical services technician's and maybe even ambulances to save your life.

So the next time you flush a tolit or get a drink of water, stop at a stop light, or drive on a road or cross a bridge or see a levee protecting property or praise the military. All of those were the product of socialism

Gheeesh-lol.
