The free market can be a wonderful thing when you have what the free market wants, but it can be very cruel when others have what you desperately need. The free market can be cruel, and so can the government plan you back with massive taxes on high gas use vehicles. Not just directly (people who like or even need such vehicles pay a heavy penalty), but also the indirect effects from distorting the market (for example maybe you cause at least one of the American car companies to go under) We need to get started now, and the way to start is efficiency We are getting started now, people are shifting to more economical vehicles (and to give a personal example, almost everyone in my little group at work has started telecommuting within the past year)
