<<But if they feel that Iran can exact a big toll in US and Israel lives plus driving the price of oil much higher for a sustained period -- war is quite unlikely IMHO.>> i do not believe(and Nassim Taleb agrees with me) that history makes rational decisions.
In The Black Swan via massive erudition on matters historic he argues that the biggest propaganda taught to students by academics is that history proceeds via rational decisions to situations, and this is the driving force to humanity becoming morally advanced.
He argues well and strongly this is BS. yep, BS.

Therefore my dark cynicism is the odds on favorite, but only time will tell--we will see, whatever and yada yada.Max

The worst scenario is if the DOD thinks we can't win without annihilation of Iran(The U.S. military's Might DOES have that power , it can obliterate Iran. Fallon even said that. He just said the time isn't right. But Fallon(NO HERO he) stated that if Iran does not behave itself and comes to meet the U.S. demands The U.S. will squash Iran like it was a bug--Fallon said that, really).

i believe one Polaris Nuclear Sub has enough power to turn Iran into a crater.
