After the north lost the war and Lincoln was asassinated the north looked away from the south. And so the south for another 50 years had de facto slavery. They had two prisons. One for whites and one for blacks. The whites served out normal sentences. The blacks however were arrested for nothing!; and then SOLD to plantation owners. They were put on chain gangs, whipped and forced to drink from the same water they had to defecate in. Many were just kids. Few, if any lived 10 years. They were brutally treated and eventually they died. This is a part of our history which is shameful and we should be teaching in school. But any kind of chain gang meets the definition of cruel and inhumane treatment. If you think chain gangs are OK, I think you need sensitivity training-lol.
