"Anyone with even the most basic understanding of how oil and natural gas are produced – and this should include many members of Congress – knows that claims of "idle" leases are a diversionary feint."

I believe they do know better but are only interested in power and think it can be obtained by pandering to an ill educated populace. Knowing better and deliberately doing harm in the pursuit of power has got to be one of the biggest crimes in the political process. The party of NO is likely to come face to face next year with the reality of the success of their wreck America campaign to gain political power.

The U.S. government received $3.7 billion from company bids in a single lease sale in March 2008.

That lease sale came out of the 2006 compromise bill which many Florida politicians (Dem and Rep) opposed but approved after considerable political pressure. A good question is why it took the energy dept almost 2 years to sell the leases?

Very interesting but seems to conflict with reports on Fox News and also attributed to Bush that some offshore locations can be brought on line in less than a year.....

And your post says little to explain the panic rush to drill off CA and FLA.....
