i know many of those citizens you speak of, they also cheered the election of the current senate and house majority, believing that things would change for the better. the narrative you tell leaves out one key ingredient: the main business of the US is war, economic, military however you want it. changing the CEO of war inc will matter not

WASHINGTON - Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold will not filibuster a compromise version of an electronic surveillance program although he thinks it will infringe on U.S. citizens' civil liberties.

Feingold said he and other Senate opponents won't try to stop the vote, but they "won't allow it to pass quickly."
