A lot of schools have two categories, those that make it on grades and then those who enter into a writing competition by submitting a note.

A note is a fairly short paper addressing a single court decision.

According to wiki, HLS also admits a few based on diversity considerations.

I have cousins who fit that description. My Dad was one of 11 kids raised by a lifelong sharecropper (as was my great gf on my Moms side of the family) and of all my cousins on both sides of the family, I was the first and am still the only one of two that graduated from college. By hard work and no help from nobody, I've gotten to a seven figure net worth. You can take your snobbish liberal putdowns and shove 'em where the sun doesn't shine.
