Obama's lack of ordinary modesty

Well, in one sense Obama cannot have any ordinary modesty - he's running for President. You won't find much ordinary modesty among Presidential candidates of any stripe. Obama has extraordinary levels of self-confidence.

But you can lay too much emphasis on his high flying rhetoric. It's obvious to anyone with ears that Obama learned much of his style from the black church (we know whose church, too) and the rhetoric of the black church tends to the soaring uplift and the messianic. It's a style.
