Wharf, it depends on what the goal is. I would suggest that our PRIMARY goal needs to be US oil independence. Lowering the price of gas or oil is a distant secondary goal that we cannot impact directly. We should focus on the things we can impact directly, such as US consumption patterns, alternatives, and efficiency. If we do those things, then oil prices will come down naturally as a consequence of our actions. Consider what will happen to the price of oil as the world's largest consumer of oil becomes the world's smallest consumer of oil per capita. Also consider that most other countries will follow our lead, if succeed in our quest for oil independence. That would be the recipe for a worldwide collapse in oil prices that the oil industry would never recover from.
