Two examples:

Ted Kennedy died lol.

Well, He didn't really die. I just thought I'd write that to give you an example of "What's wrong with lol?"

And

George Carlin died lol.

Well, he's still funny.

Years ago, I thought "lol" meant "lots of luck". But it's really "laughing out loud".

When someone writes a message and then "lol" it's a mixed message when the message is not funny. A mixed message is a diluted message. IMO.

If it's diluted and I don't have time to think about what the writer means, I ignore the message. Done enough, I ignore him or her.
