If there is a way for them to get into the tree, they'll find it. Oral's link showed how clever they can be. They can jump a great distance and never lose their footing, it seems. I doubt you will be able to beat them. We're overrun with them around here. Over the last several years we've also been invaded by huge crows. They sit in the tops of trees and squawk their fool heads off. They also eat other birds eggs or new hatches. Nuisances.
