Good point. The great Alfred North Whitehead (Bertrand Russels buddy and co author of mathematica principia in 1916) one of my primary mentors once said: "we have a tendency to divide the universe between the organic and inorganic, I believe consciousness is a third system in the universe". I have thought about that all of my life. My guess is that consciousness is pervasive throughout the universe and is simply existing ourside our present senses. There is a good chance big computers, maybe quantum computers and radio telescopes will identify it for us.
