It's a real stretch of the imagination to think that people died for big government. Most of us Americans cherish our rights and our freedoms. Most in the military fight for those ideals. No one dies willingly for big government, not even in communist nations.

People died for 'their country', which is their government. Their government is big. Therefore they died for their (big) government.

At least you admit that government is already huge here. Does it need to be?

Pretty much. It's big country with a big economy. It's who we are... it's not separate from us.

I personally don't think so, but it seems the majority of Americans these days think government is the solution, not the problem.

It is and always has been the solution to some problems and not others. Why is that so hard to comprehend for some people? You want to get the streets cleaned, I suppose everybody could clean the street in front of their home or business, and part of the Interstate, or hire someone to do it. But it's much more efficient to do it collectively. You want a war I suppose everybody could equip themselves and buy a plane ticket, but...
