Why buying sugar - long term;

1. Corn is reaching all times highs – most sweeteners in the US are manufactured form corn
2. The new areas of growing sugar cane in W. Africa are having severe draught
3. The State of Florida bought substantial agricultural land cultivating sugar cane in the Everglades for restoration around lake Okeechobee
4. Price of Producing sugar in Brazilian Real is at a multiyear low
5. Ukraine Russia and Europe which are sources of sugar beet are growing corn and wheat as it is more profitable
6. Sugar is not a commodity every one talks about now contrary to 2005

One of America's key ecosystems, the Everglades in Florida, is to be greatly expanded after a landmark deal between the state and a major sugar company.

The US Sugar Corp has tentatively agreed to sell its 800sq km (300sq miles) of land in the Everglades to state authorities for $1.75bn (£890m).

The land, currently used for growing sugar cane, will be turned back into its natural state of swampy marshland. However, sugar producers are concerned the move will cost up to 2,000 jobs.
