The rich do fine in third world countries. Now that's something to emulate! And there are so many rich in 3rd world countries. There are plenty of rich people in 3rd world countries. Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico is one of the richest men in the world. What 3rd world countries lack is a large middle class.Yet liberals want new big entitlements - universal health care to include 12M illegal aliens (according to Obama), universal day care (remember Hillary's Christmas ads?). We need to shut down all ideas of new entitlements and then we can start reforming the ones we have. It seems to me the last big entitlement was a neo-conservative program??? Could have been a Bush administration thing not popular with conservatives. Not a "neo"-conservative thing either. More a trying to work with Democrats thing. Social Security work very well and does need a temporary patch that's not too painful. SS has structural flaws. It takes big chunks of people's payroll and doesn't build up an investment account for them that can be inherited and build family wealth over time. It encourages people not to save - depend on uncle sam. And it hasn't been adjusted to keep pace with lengthening life spans. The "temporary patch" needed isn't temporary. Democrats politicians tell elderly people anyone who tries to reform the system is trying to take away their social security. Medicare is in trouble primarily because our medical system is twice as expensive as other industrialized counties. Need to go after the root problem. Medicare's cost problems are demographic-driven just as in social security. Now that's two programs out of maybe 10,000... yet the anti-government freaks hate the whole IDEA of government. Two very very big programs that need reform. As for hating the idea of government, thats cause it tends to get too intrusive on individual rights. People lobby government to get it to impose their desires on society. You want the government to tell us what kind of car to drive, someone else will want it to tell people where they can smoke, someone else will want it to tell us what we can do with our land (if its wetlands, home to endangered species, etc), someone else will want to tell us if we can own a firearm, theres no end. The root problem is people using government to impose their views on society.
