When I think of heroes, I think of James Clyburn, not John McCain. Seriously.

Imagine being black in the deep south in the 1950-1960's. Now imagine having the "tenacity" to go against a segregated system, risking not only certain injury, but also possible death, at the hands of an oppressive people, and worst, at the hands of the people who were sworn to protect you.

Could I do what Clyburn did on behalf of his people. Honestly, I don't know.

In this country, it takes twice the effort, twice the brilliance for a person of color and someone from the female sex to ascend to the top. It is not t hat Barack met that performance but more so that the American people set that bar and that they no recognize that a person finally has reached that bar.

It is the recognition and acceptance unlike in a nation where there are only people of color; Zimbabwe.
