Your pre-paid minutes never expire. However the carriers typically required that you buy a certain amount of minutes every 90 days or every 365 days. Typically this means that you have to spend at least $8 a month as the minimum cost to stay in the plan.

one person tells me they have t mobil prepaid and buy $100 in prepay for the year and never runs out. it is their cheapest way to have a cell phone for travel since they never use the phone otherwise.

That is what I have. The details are that you are buying a combination of 1000 minutes and 12 months of service for $100. My service renews on 11/15/2008. As long as I buy another term, any minutes I still have roll over. That gives you a cost of 10 cents a minute USA. You can check your account on your phone or online. For instance, I have 380 minutes left right now, so I have used 620 minutes in seven months. That's 88 minutes a month so far, and means that if I continue at the same rate, I will run out in October. I buy this through their Costco outlet and I think it's a bit cheaper that way.

One nice feature is that you can add all of your phone numbers online instead of having to enter them on the phone. Then simply download them to the phone. Add and subtract numbers the same way.

Here is the overseas setup: Hawaii and Alaska are "local."
