American spirit: "Reagan-Bush let the corporations rule. It failed."

koan: " It was worse than that. Few people know that as crazy as this sounds (see Oysters post on Mish's thread which I responded too) the neo cons led by Milton Friedman and Ayn Rand have this crazy belief that "pure capitalism" can replace democracy as a formula for effectively running our country.

In effect instilling a sort of fascism.

Since Reagan was elected he and the rest of the Republicans have been instituting friedman's crazy ass idea. Bolstering pure capitalism and dismantling the New deal and running the country without regulations thinking pure capitalism will automatically regulate everything just fine.

Capitalism is the best system, but it is sociopathic by its very nature. Democracy has to oversee it becasue that is where the concience of the country comes from.

Well, you can see from the sub prime debacle what happens when an imperial president and a cluelss republican congress removes as many regulations as they can and try to dismantle the New Deal. Chaos!

We are in for a very rough ride. In 1980 when Reagan took office (the most over rated president in hisory) we only owed one trillion dollars and were a creditor nation, I htink.

Today because of the neo cons nutso economic ideas we owe 10 trillion domestic deficit and 7 trillion in foreign debt. 17 trillion dollars.

I cannot see how we can even pay the interest when we go into a recession/depression.
