D Long - there is simply a huge misunderstanding of the economics of energy. The whole issue of balance of payments never seems to get mentioned. Every barrel produced is one not imported. The ignorance of the public and political class is frightening. I do think many of the political class know better and deliberately choose bad policy for political gain by taking advantage of an uninformed public.

EROEI and Extraction rates rule !!

Of course there are reserves "exploitable" @ +$130/barrel ..

The problem is that no matter how many $$$$ we throw at
them they will NEVER produce at anywhere near the rates
of extraction that a conventional well does ....

I'm sure we'll try everything to keep the fossil fuel
party going for as long as possible ..

It just won't be enough ..
